BIBLICAL JORDAN

(8 DAYS - 7 NIGHTS )

Jordan is home to several significant biblical sites that hold deep historical and spiritual importance. From the mountain where Moses gazed upon the Promised Land to the Jordan River where Jesus was baptized. Explore ancient churches, mosaics, and natural wonders like the Dead Sea, each offering a glimpse into the rich biblical heritage of the region. Jordan's biblical sites serve as a testament to its role in shaping the religious history.

DAY 1: QUEEN ALIA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT – AMMAN

Upon arriving Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) in Amman, the capital of Jordan, JAT Representative holding a sign with your name will be present to meet and assist you with the completion of customs, immigration procedures, passport formalities, and visa handling. Overnight / Amman.

DAY 2: AMMAN CITY TOUR

Pick up from your hotel to visit important places in Amman. The town has already been mentioned in the Bible as Rabbath-Ammon ( Deut. 3:11 ) the capital of the Ammonites. Your tour will take you to the CITADEL with its remains from the Roman to the Byzantine period and the Archaeological Museum housing excellent artifacts. You will visit the Folklore Museum and the ROMAN THEATER from 2nd century.

Having a walking tour in the downtown of Amman, meeting local people, passing by the spices and vegetable market.

The rest of the day is for leisure or you discover parts of the capital on your own account. Overnight / Amman.

DAY 3: UM QAIS – ANJARA - JERASH

Head to north of Jordan to spend the day. In the northwestern corner of Jordan, are the ruins of the Decapolis city of Gadara, now called UMM QAIS, or what was mentioned in the bibile nin the name of " Gadara " ( Matthew 8:28-34 ). According to the Bible Jesus healed here demoniac and the demons running as swines into the Sea of Galilee. There is an amazing vantage point, with views of (Jordan, Syria, and Israel and the Palestinian Territories), encompassing the Golan Heights, Mt Hermon and the Sea of Galilee.

Continue to ANJARA, It is believed that Jesus Christ and his disciples including Virgin Mary passed through this site once and rested in a cave there during a journey between Jerusalem and Galilee.

Head towards JERASH the largest archaeological site in Jordan and the best preserved example of Roman civilization, it is known for the ruins of the Greco-Roman city of Gerasa, another city of what called in the bible " Decapolis " and was mentioned in the new testament " the region of the Gerasenes" (Mark 5:1; Luke 8:26)

A great place to visit during the spring with its beautiful rolling hills and lush greenery, Jerash has a rhythm not seen anywhere else in Jordan. The largest archaeological site in Jordan and the best-preserved example of Roman civilization in the Middle East. Overnight / Amman.

DAY 4: MADABA – MOUNT NEBO - KING'S WAY - MUKAWIR - KERAK - PETRA

From here we journey to MT. NEBO ,is most known for being the site where Moses overlooked the Holy Land but did not enter it and where a church and a monastery were built to honor him. The book of ( Numbers 33:47 ) mentions that when the children of Israel moved from Almon Diblathaim they camped in the mountains of Abarim, before Nebo, and that the children of Reuben rebuilt the city (Numbers 32:38). the burial site of Prophet Moses ( Deuteronomy 34 ) overlooking the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea. Here you view 4th and 6th century Byzantine churches with wonderful mosaics.

Then we visit the mosaic city of MADABA , ( Numbers 21:30 ) where the oldest map of the Holy Land exists on the floor of St. George's Church. More mosaics can be seen in the Archaeological Park, which houses some masterpieces from Byzantine churches.

Stop at MOSAIC Factory .

Driving by this highway to reach a 700 meter high hill MUKAWIR , in biblical times known as Machaerus, had been a great palace, where Herod Antipas imprisoned and killed John the Baptist. (Mark 6:14-29). You can see the towers, walls and baths.

Along the King's Way, The King's Highway or Derech HaMelech is referred to in the Book of Numbers, (Numbers 20:17, 21:22), where it is related that the Israelite, in their Exodus journey needed to use the road.where already Prophet Moses walked, you drive through the land of Edom and Moab to KERAK. You will visit a great Crusader castle, during the late Hellenistic Period became an important town as was known as Kharkha. Under the Byzantine Empire it was a bishopric, containing the much venerated Church of Nazareth, and remained predominantly Christian under Arab and Islamic rule.

DAY 5: PETRA

The City of PETRA is in the Bible. It is located near Mount Hor which is the location in scripture, where the brother of Moses " Aaron" passed away ( Numbers 20:23-28 ).

The red-rose city of Petra is a unique destination. More than 2000 years ago the area was settled by the Nabataeans who carved magnificent buildings in the sandstone. You walk through the Siq, an immense crack in the stone, to see at the end Petra's most impressive

monument: the Treasury. Then Street of Facades to see the Royal Tombs, Qasr al Bint and the young at heart climb up the 800 stairs to the Monastery El Deir.

Petra is a UNESCO World Heritages Site and one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. Inhabited by the Nabateans, Edomites and Romans, Petra brought together the knowledge and skill of these civilizations to create this world wonder. Caravans laden with incense, silks, spices and other exotic goods would rest at Petra. Overnight / Petra.

DAY 6: PETRA – WADI RUM

Transfer to WADI RUM . “The Valley of the Moon”, depicted as Mars in several Hollywood feature films Wadi Rum is an Arabian fairy-tale waiting to be discovered. Home to nomadic Bedouin tribes, Wadi Rum is a a quiet getaway of stars, sand, and sun; a perfect complement from Amman’s epicenter. Once inhabited by the Nabataeans of prehistoric times, Wadi Rum allows you to get lost in large landscapes and horizon lines. DAY 7: WADI RUM – LOT'S CAVE - BETHANY - DEAD SEA

In the Morning and after your breakfast, drive from the desert to the Dead Sea. En route we visit LOT'S CAVE near the town of Safi. ( Genesis 11–14 ) Here Prophet Lot lived together with his daughters after he fled the sinful cities Sodom and Gomorrah.

Drive to BETHANY at the Jordan River. This is the place where the baptism of Jesus Christ by John the Baptist took place. (John 1:28 and 10:4 ) You also will have a look at Elijah's Hill where Prophet Elijah ascended to heaven. (2 Kings 2.5-15)

Heading at 410m below sea level, the DEAD SEA. A spectacular natural wonder perfect for religious tourism and fun in the sun with the family. With its mix of beach living and religious history you can soak up the sun while Biblical scholars can get their daily dose of religious history. The Dead Sea was mentioned in the bible in the name of " Salt Sea " ( Genesis 14:3 )

The leading attraction at the Dead Sea is the warm, soothing, super salty water itself – some ten times saltier than sea water, and rich in chloride salts of magnesium, sodium, potassium, bromine and several others. The unusually warm, incredibly buoyant and mineral-rich waters have attracted visitors since ancient times, including King Herod the Great and the beautiful Egyptian Queen, Cleopatra. All of whom have luxuriated in the Dead Sea's rich, black, stimulating mud and floated effortlessly on their backs while soaking up the water's healthy minerals along with the gently diffused rays of the Jordanian sun.
